How to Measure for the Perfect Fit

Collar Size (for Shirts)

Accurately measuring your collar size is essential for selecting a well-fitting shirt. Here's a guide to help you determine your correct collar size:

Position the Tape Measure: Place the end of a soft tape measure at the base of your neck, where the top button of your shirt collar would sit.

Wrap Around the Neck: Gently wrap the tape measure around your neck, ensuring it stays level and snug but not tight.

Add Breathing Room: Insert one finger between the tape measure and your neck. This allowance ensures comfort and prevents the collar from feeling too tight.

Top Tips:

  • Begin measuring from the bottom of your Adam's apple.
  • Avoid pulling the tape too tightly to prevent an inaccurate measurement.
  • If possible, ask someone to assist you for a more precise measurement.
Size Collar Measurement (inches)
Small (S) 14 - 14.5
Medium (M) 15 - 15.5
Large (L) 16 - 16.5
Extra Large (XL) 17 - 17.5
Double Extra Large (XXL) 18 - 18.5

How to Measure for Men's Suits

Chest Size:

Stand Tall: Maintain a straight, upright posture with your arms relaxed at your sides. Avoid slouching or sitting down, as this can affect accuracy.

Wrap the Tape Around Your Chest: Position a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, ensuring it passes under your arms and stays level around your torso.

Check the Fit: The tape should be snug but not too tight; it should rest comfortably without restricting movement.

Take the Measurement: Bring the tape to a central point at the front of your chest and record the reading in inches.

Sleeve Length:

Start at the Neck: Place one end of a tape measure at the center of your spine, at the back of your neck.

Measure to the Shoulder: Extend the tape from your neck to the edge of your shoulder joint.

Measure to the Wrist: From your shoulder joint, continue measuring down to your wrist bone.

Calculate Your Sleeve Length: Add the two measurements together to get your accurate sleeve length.

Waist (for Trousers):

Position the Tape Correctly: Wrap a soft tape measure around your natural waist, just above your hip bone and in line with your belly button.

Allow Breathing Room: Place one finger between the tape and your body to ensure a comfortable fit that isn’t too tight.

Maintain a Natural Posture: Stand relaxed and breathe normally. Avoid sucking in your stomach, as this can result in an inaccurate measurement and an overly tight fit.

Inside Leg Length (Inseam):

Stand Properly: Keep your legs slightly apart while standing straight. Avoid bending your knees.

Position the Tape Measure: Place the tape as high as possible on your inner thigh, close to the crotch.

Measure to the Ankle: Keeping the tape snug but not tight, extend it down the inside of your leg to the base of your ankle.

Record Your Measurement: The length from your crotch to your ankle is your inseam.

How to Measure a Suit for Your Child

Our boys' suits are measured in centimetres. If you have a special occasion coming up, don’t worry, measuring your child for a suit follows the same process as measuring an adult. Taking accurate measurements ensures a suit that is both comfortable and stylish.

Signs a Suit is Too Small

A suit that is too small will be visibly tight and restrictive. Look out for these signs:

  • The blazer pulls or sags around the shoulders.
  • When buttoned, the jacket flares outward instead of sitting flat.
  • The jacket covers less than 80% of the buttocks.
  • The trousers feel too tight during normal movement.

Signs a Suit is Too Big

If a suit is too large, it will appear loose and oversized. Here’s what to check:

  • The shoulder pads extend past the natural shoulder line.
  • The jacket looks baggy and lacks structure.
  • The trousers hang too low, draping over the shoes.

How a Suit Should Fit

For the perfect fit:

  • Your child should be able to comfortably place two fingers inside the sleeve.
  • A small portion of the shirt cuff should be visible beyond the jacket sleeve.
  • The trousers should fit snugly, resting just above the shoes without excessive bunching.

Below, you'll find our boys suit size chart. For more details on how to take measurements, refer to our measurement guide.
